Carpal tunnel foods to avoid – what does carpal tunnel feel like? Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition found common in patients with diabetes and arthritis which has a sign of swelling and inflammation in the wrist and tendons of the fingers. It makes it difficult to move of forearms, wrists, hands, and fingers. It is also caused due to other reasons like repetitive movements of hands and wrists, genetic predisposition, obesity, hormonal changes, injuries, and autoimmune disorders. In rare cases, the diet also leads to cause of carpal tunnel syndrome.

This carpal tunnel syndrome is also referred to as a repetitive motion syndrome. As the name suggests, it is also caused by repetitive movements of hands and wrists, maybe the people playing games often with video game controllers or working continuously on keyboards are the victims. The pain is felt when the swollen tendons compress the median nerve and other symptoms associated with are tingling and numbness. How is carpal tunnel treated?

It should be understood that an improper diet can increase this condition to worsen by adding further inflammation in the body that increases the swelling and pressure on the median nerve.

The pro-inflammatory proteins called cytokines are the causes of carpal tunnel pain. Processed foods are the main source of these inflammatory proteins.

1.  Sugar

Sugar intake will increase inflammation. Avoiding this can reduce the inflammation in the body.

2.  Omega-6 fatty acids

Omega-6 fatty acids may be necessary fat source food for the growth and proper development of the body. But if it is consumed in large quantities may lead to many health problems. Some of the omega-6 rich foods are corn, soy, peanuts, mayonnaise, and grapeseed.

3.  Gluten

Gluten in foods like pasta, the bread will cause inflammation in the body. Gluten-free food gives a better result.

4.  Refined carbohydrates

5.  Alcohol

The excessive intake of alcohol can increase the inflammation levels in the body. In long term, it can lead to the cause of carpal tunnel syndrome. The required amount of alcohol is good for health.

Water retention is the common cause of salty food. It may increase the swelling and pressure on the median nerve which can cause pain. Avoid taking processed and packaged food which are high in salt.

7.  Fried food

High trans fat and salt are found in fried foods. So avoid fast foods.

By avoiding foods that raise inflammation, we can intake foods that reduce inflammation which can save us from carnal tunnel syndrome.

Omega-3 fatty acids– reduces inflammation and improve brain function and reduce the risk of heart diseases and diabetes. Walnuts are a good source of omega-3 fatty acids.

Whole grains– the fatty acids in whole grains helps in fighting against inflammation

Vitamin B12 rich foods– vitamin B12 is helpful in reducing the effect of nerve damage. Some vitamin B12 rich foods are clams.

Vitamin B6 foods– foods such as bananas, wheat germ, spinach, and potatoes are high in vitamin B6 are useful in treating carpal tunnel syndrome.

Fruits– Even though fruits are a source of sugar but it does not cause as ill effects as refined sugar. Fruits such as apples, blueberries, tomatoes, and pineapples are good at fighting against inflammation.

Red Bell Peppers – Red bell peppers help in controlling inflammation. It is good for a person suffering from the pain of carpal tunnel syndrome. It reduces the pain and tingling.

Green tea – green tea is giving good results for inflammation in the body. Studies are suggested it as a good beverage for inflammation.
